Poetry Change Loose Change
The Homepage, Poetry & Artwork of Steven R. McEvoy
This is my homepage but most of my web presence is on my blog, Book Reviews and More. It is a collection of my published and unpublished writing, mostly book reviews, with a few articles and reflection's. If you want to poke around here the key sections are Poetry, Artwork, and Lists.
I have written poetry for as long as I can remember. And I try and read a book or 2 of poetry each year.

Change loose Change
There once was a man who was proud of himself. Proud of all he
could do and all that he had done and all that he was. He used to boast
of all that he had done. He used to boast of his feats in sports and
where he had been.
This proud man was one day in a fight, he beat the other man to
the ground then he jumped on him and hit him more. Then he saw the blood,
pouring from the other's nose and all over his own hands. Then a change
took place. This proud boastful man ran. For the first time in his life
he ran. He ran from his life and all that he was.
He hid in a washroom stall, he hid and cried, he sobbed the tears
he had locked away since he was ten. Since death had come into his life.
He had to run to life. He had searched the religions of the east. He had
probed the depths and darkness of the occult. He began to run to run to
the light. The light of Life.
As he was wondering in this dazed new state, he came upon an old
bookstore. Full from floor to ceiling with used books. He started flipping
thru bibles one by one. Then a red soft bound one came forward. Into his
hands. Matching the colour of the dried blood beneath his nails. It had
many names on the inside cover and was well worn. In the bottom right
hand corner were two verses marked, they were Matthew 5:6 "blessed is he
who does hunger and thirst for righteousness, for he shall be filled."
the other was John 10:10 "For the thief comes to steal, to kill and to
destroy, I am come that they may have life and may have it more abundantly."
These two versus described the new heart of this man and all that
he desired. He traded two new books from his pack for the old and worn
bible. Then he went to a park nearby, and he read again the gospel of
Mark. Memories came flooding back, communion, being an alter boy, and
confirmation. By Then it was dark and he fell to his knees in the cool
moist ground and he prayed. He prayed for the first time in a long
time. He prayed to the triune god, the father, Son, and Holy ghost.
He had now changed. He had changed the Master of Life to be his
King. The road now before him is narrow and hard. He had many ups and
downs. He would fail his King many times. yet his King would pick him
up, brush off his clothes and say to him, "Keep Going, run the race and
fight the good fight, be my soldier, be my brother." then the man would
get up and he would go on.
Then one day his King would bless him. He blessed him with a
woman to be his wife. aA Very special lovely woman. He blessed him with a
family he would join thru marriage. A father-in-law that was strong and
true and another soldier of the king. A Brother who was young and pure. A
mother in law who was beautiful and holy.
Now plans for this are underway. This man will still have his
ups and downs. He still has struggles and strife. But as a soldier of the
King he can endure till the King Comes again.
